Jeff Deckert, MA, NCC, LCMHC is a board certified, licensed clinical mental health counselor with years of experience working with individuals, adolescents, families and couples.

Through private practice, Jeff has gained extensive experience working with adolescents, young adults, and families. He enjoys helping clients through depression, anxiety, school adjustment, sexual issues, grief, and relationship issues. In his work with adolescents, he utilizes a combination of individual and parent-teen family sessions. All behavior has a purpose and he will work to identify the usefulness of the behaviors and attitudes in question including patterns of misbehavior (attention, power, revenge, and displaying inadequacy). Jeff uses a Cognitive Behavioral theoretical framework along with the relational, interpersonal perspective. Equipped to address men’s issues, Jeff’s experience can assist men in addressing stressful work situations, relationships, and personal growth and development. He encourages clients to think through needed steps to achieve their goals.

As an outgrowth of his family work, he is able to assist couples married and not married with their relationship concerns and ways to grow and enrich their relationships. Many of the issues couples face can be understood through improving their communication, intimacy or resolving conflict.

Jeff received his Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Liberty University. He also has a Bachelors of Science degree in psychology from John Brown University located in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He also trained in clinical psychology in the graduate school at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Jeff is a member of the South Carolina Society of Adlerian Psychology.

He began counseling with the Vance-Granville-Franklin-Warren (VGFW) Area Mental Health program in 1989 in the day treatment program for adolescents. His roles at VGFW Mental Health included outpatient individual and family counseling, in-home therapy with families, and group therapy. While at VGFW, he also supervised outreach therapists and ran the psychological testing program in the child and family department.

Jeff also has a background in technology and business as a Technical Support Manager which has developed his leadership skills, team building, technical troubleshooting, and individual team member management.

Jeff and his wife were married in 1994 and they have two adult children. They are active members at Bay Leaf Baptist church and have led a small group for 24 years. In his free time he enjoys reading, yard work, and working on cars. Interesting fact: Jeff is certified by Microsoft in SQL Server
