Jeff Deckert, MA, NCC, LCMHC is a nationally board-certified and North Carolina licensed clinical mental health counselor who brings decades of experience working with individuals, adolescents, and couples. Jeff values creating a supportive, respectful, and collaborative therapeutic relationship where clients feel understood and empowered to create meaningful change.
In his practice, Jeff works with people facing concerns such as depression, anxiety, school adjustment, sexual issues, grief, and relationship challenges. His clinical approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and thoughtfully integrated with relational and interpersonal perspectives. Jeff believes effective therapy addresses both internal thought patterns and the relational contexts in which people live.
Jeff has a particular interest in men’s issues and enjoys helping men navigate work-related stress, relationship challenges, sexual concerns, and personal growth. He approaches this work with sensitivity, practicality, and an understanding of the pressures many men experience.
Couples counseling is an area of strong passion for Jeff. He helps couples identify unhelpful communication patterns, develop healthier ways of connecting, and build practical skills to strengthen their relationship. Jeff works collaboratively with couples to address conflict, rebuild trust, and foster deeper emotional connection.
Jeff earned his Master of Arts in Counseling from Liberty University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He also completed graduate-level clinical psychology training at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, and is a member of the South Carolina Society of Adlerian Psychology.
Jeff began his counseling career in 1989 with the Vance-Granville-Franklin-Warren (VGFW) Area Mental Health Program, where he worked in the adolescent day treatment program. His professional experience there included outpatient individual and family counseling, in-home family therapy, group therapy, supervision of outreach therapists, and oversight of the psychological testing program within the child and family department.
In addition to his clinical background, Jeff has experience in technology and business as a Technical Support Manager. This background contributes to his structured, solution-focused approach and strengthens his leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills. He is also Microsoft-certified in SQL Server.
Jeff and his wife have been married since 1994 and they have two adult children. He and his wife are active members of Bay Leaf Baptist Church. They have led a small group for more than 30 years. Outside of his work, Jeff enjoys reading, spending time with friends, and working on cars.
